Wooden shutters
Why use Wooden Shutters Instead of Other Materials
We are based in Manchester and have been working with window treatments for over 4 years. As a Manchester based company our reputation has grown in supplying new and used parts for shutters for this duration. We decided to open a mail order website in order to fulfill the growing need of our customers to order parts for our wooden shutters.
Wooden shutters were our preferred choice of products to offer spares, mainly because the suppliers we work with offer excellent quality and durable products. Plantation shutters made from other materials we found to not be as durable, aesthetically not as nice and were not in keeping with our customer expectations. read more about shutter parts here
hard woods such as elm and polar have excellent properties, colour, durability and grains to name a few. Read more about the properties of wood on The BBC website here.
Wood, Faux and MDF shutters
With a range of products on the market we researched and found that the properties of wooden plantation shutters were best suited to our needs. With high quality hard wood panels, wooden louvers and frames, you are buying not only an attractive product which is timeless and classic but also a product that will last a long time if maintained. Spares are required where damage has been made often by children hanging off the panels, like with hinges which can break, other damage can be caused by pulling at the wooden slats or louvers. These are not fragile, but when forced open in a hurry can lead to breakage. With MDF we found that the compound material was less suited to the desired look. MDF is not particularly attractive to look at and was prone to peeling off or splitting. The hand finished quality of wooden panels was far nicer.
Faux shutters are relatively small still in the UK. Basically plastic shutters faux wood is another name. The finish of these can be nice, like the new types of laminate or plastic decking, however as with uPVC double glazing plastic is hard to hide and may customers wanted a smarter look. We are in discussions with manufacturers in the supply of faux wood shutters however we have not reached agreement yet. If you want to be informed of when we do stock faux shutter spares please let us know and we will be happy to advise.
Properties of wooden shutters
Wood has a grainy warm finish just like any hard wooden product shutters are the same. Wood is available in a range of stains and paints, either enhancing the grain or working with smoother finishes when painted. We offer ELM wood and POPLAR wooden parts and spare, both are environmentally responsible sourced and have excellent qualities. Wood shutters can help with keeping property warm in winter, cool in summer and helps with light control. They are durable (we rarely sell the same part to the same customer!) and look the business in most rooms. If you want bathroom shutters we also stock these as wood is the ideal material as it is water repellant and UV treated. Not ideal for constantly wet environments though.
